Enough lies from Tripadvisor

Boycott Description

Trip Advisor has ruined too many businesses. There is no control or governance performed by them. TripAdvisor works like a car with no brakes. People can publish whatever they want.

In proven cases, people published negative reviews on restaurants without having ever eaten there. In Italy a fake restaurant was put on TripAdvisor and many reviews were posted. TripAdvisor  never noticed.

TripAdvisor has forums that are badly moderated. They claim that they do not delete comments as long as they are not insulting. This is simply not true. TripAdvisor  appoints destination experts who then can prevent anybody from posting a truthful comment. In some cases, content that warned travelers of potential threats has been consistently deleted.

TripAdvisor  lists rental property at a cost for the owner. Users think that TripAdvisor  is neutral but it is not.

Boycott Demands

We demand that TA:

 

1. Require that any reviewer produce proof that he/she was actually a client of the business, using a receipt, bill, credit card bill etc.

1. Enquire into any new businesses being added to TA.

1. Disable the automatic forum post deletion and only delete when a post breaks the law.

1. Appoints destination experts for a limited time.

1. Refrains from asking for payment to list a rental.

1. Hires an external audit firm to check their control processes every year.
