EHarmony ridicules people with mental illnessBoycott Description
EHarmony is currently broadcasting television commercials which ridicule people with apparent mental illness and suggests that people who have mental illness are unsuited to dating relationships. The commercial to which I refer pictures a man in discussion with Rick Warren, the founder of eharmony. A key scene of the commercial includes a woman, obviously in great distress, who is sobbing. The commercial is belittling to the woman, strongly suggestive that she has mental health issues, with the accompanying implication being that people who have mental health illnesses are not 'suitable' relationship material. I'm all for the use of humour in advertising, but this commercial demonstrates an appalling insensitivity towards people who may be suffering from mental health issues. When eharmony ceases to belittle people in their commercials, I will remove this boycott.Boycott Demands
