Boycott Title

Time Warner treats their contractors like crap

Boycott Description

I work for a contractor for time warner. Time Warner expects more from us than they do from their own tech's. We get all the crap work that their "in house" tech's can't or don't want to do. We are paid piece work, they are paid by the hour. They get 4 or 5 jobs a day, we get 10-12 jobs a day. On an average day I get 4 8-12, 5 12-4's and 4 4-7's. And we are expected to get 100% QC's and no trouble calls.  We as cotractors do not get the benefits that "in house" tech's get, like free cable. The "in house" tech's QC our work and make money off failing us. I work 6 days a week from 7am to 9pm at least, sometimes later. I never see my wife or children. So please until TW starts treating their contractor's better, please boycott TW. Insight and WOW pay their contractor's good. Give them your money please.

Boycott Demands

Time Warner needs to treat us contractor's as well as it does their "in house" tech's. All we ask is to be treated fairly.

Contracting for twc isn't easy and isn't for everyone. They're are always hiring contractors. I'm thankful for the work because I can work 7 days a week period . I usually only average 2 grand a month. I'd love the opportunity to be an in-house tech. But idont appreciate twc not recognizing my hard work in efforts to keep my customers happy or my valid qc work or the fact that igot in a car accident getting a specific box that wasn't on the work order in the company vehicle. I suffered two months without work because they took my vehicle and had to get my own. I came back because my contracting company was there for me and are good people. I was on gr and unemployment iwas in the hole for two months couldn't even throw a party for my daughter who turned 6 yrs old and I still can't I'm waiting 3weeks for my first check. im currently using my last unemployment payment on gas n food to try to make it till my first check again. I salute all cable tech's god bless

If you're in the middle of a great movie, service will go out!

If you finally get to see the new season of your show that left a cliffhanger last season, service will die!

Time Warner Cable is the worse

Time Warner Cable treats all their workers like crap.  I don't know what to do to fix it but they don't care about their workers at all.  they will try everything in their power not to pay their contractor.  also they want the contractor to do extra work for free.  and if you don't do it then they don't want you to get any more work.  I have also work for other companies but Time Warner Cable is the worst.

NOT QUITE! - 3/13/13 4:50 PM

NOT QUITE!

If anyone reading this is under the impression that TWC is not aware how the hired contracting companies treat their employees, they are sadly misinformed. Time Warner is fully aware that the contracting employer routes their technicians with too much work because they see the tech numbers and the amount of work they have each day. Do not blame the technician, who is mislead from day one to believe that hard work will net you a healthy check every week. Months into a technicians hiring, the contractor is not payin the correct hourly to it's technicians commensurate with their level of experience and technical skill. You have RF techs who weren't properly trained, forced to take VOIP jobs, overloaded with the amount of work per time frame and then held to a very high standard as far as performance is concerned. Time Warner has the shittiest reputation in the business and is only concerned with saving money on not providing vehicles, retirement plans, benefits and disability benefits for workers and this is why they hire contractors. AND TO TOP IT OFF, the contractors can run circles around in house techs completing double the amount of work they do without meters, without uniforms, without proper functioning vehicles and without proper training and a large percent of them work without guarenteed weekly earnings. TWC is a group of crooks who shorts the contractors on equipment each day and uses charge backs to unfairly recoup the money the contractors earn. They providing the contracting company with used, damaged and refurbished equipment and not enough of it as well, and this all but guarantees a nice return of funds for them.

All Cable Contractors

I have been a contractor for Comcast in NJ for almost 10 years now. I have seen the worst of the worst. It is now coming to tourist season here and many homes and such have been destroyed by hurricane Sandy. There is so much re-build work here and guess who has been getting all the re-wires and ariel drops especially on the coldest days and rainiest, ypu you guessed it, the contractors. Contractors built these systems nation wide, then big companies branded their names on them. In house techs are their for show and to carry the companies logo, anybody that thinks otherwise is a white collar worker and never gets their hands dirty. With these economic times contractors are taking more work and opening up their quota to make the company more money, but not hiring which results in more work for us. I would love to see TW and Comcast have a class action suit from their contractors and get the crap sued out of them. They owe all of us.

both sides

Well I've worked both sides and I must say that TWC does hold contractors to a higher standard than inhouse and I can't tell u how many times I have been to a customers house to fix a job that inhouse could have fixed while they were there but told the customer they had to do a workorder witch was bull. And inhouse has always had an issue with contractors making more money so they QC harder on them but as far as the 10 to 12 jobs of a contractor, that is determine by the workload the contract owner says his crew can handle for example our daily load was about 350-400 jobs a day divided by about 35 Techs but the reason behind tha is not all jobs are installs mostly upgrades, disco , or trouble calls..(from inhouse) so they beef up the daily count to make more money but being a contractor I just say what i can do for the day without failing a QC , but I'll take contractor pay over inhouse anyday ..1500 every 2 weeks as in inhouse and 1800 a week as a contractor so.......

WRONG

Ok, let me get this straight. You contractors are blaming TW for the sins of your contracting company???? Well allow me to enlighten you all.

First off TW does not dictate what your company does. YOU decided to work for this contract outfit. You never stopped to think that your company made deals that they knew they could not do. Have you ever wondered why ATT or Charter telco does not have contractors???? Its because the want good work done and it takes much more to work on the telcom, talent and knowledge. TW is doing you ppl a favor by allowing you to work in their network. STOP BITING THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU otherwise simply get out of the business.

TWC WILL SUCK THE LIFE OUT OF YOU

I worked for TWC and they treat their employees like crap at least in NC. Moreover, TWC does the chargeback for the OTG it gives to customers and then the companies take it out of their employees pay. Secondly, regular in house techs actually only do service calls and rarely do installations; installations are done by contractors. it is obvious that the people saying great things about TWC are   probaby TWC managment!

???

BTW if you are paid piece work and only do as many installs as a TWC installer does... how much money does that make for you that day???? What a bunch of babies on here... You guys are totally in the wrong career field... Try contracting for Charter it is much worse.. And TWC does not cut your pay, your contract company does by negotiating a lower cost contract in order to not get beat out by another company. And if you did quality work many of your charge backs would never have happened. Yes on time garauntee is crap especially when you get overbooked on time frames; but there is not a whole lot that can be done about that as ultimately if your company accepts the install they have to give it to one of you. TWC in general is a very good company to work for in house, and not to bad as a contractor. I suggest you check who you sub for, and see what they are making off you before you go saying how bad TWC is, cause in my experience it is generally the Contract company screwing you... Thats why you never have enough techs to handle the work and why you make so much less per job...

I have worked In house and contractor for TWC. You sir are being a baby. If you do not like contracting then apply for an in house position. Or alternatively go to another system. But I warn you ALL the systems are like that. You are a contractor, it is how install contracting has always been. Put on your big boy pants and act like a big boy.

BOYCOTT TWC - THE ANTICHRIST!!!

I have a relative who has work for TWC for decades! The way they treated this person is nothing short of illegal. I cannot stress enough how evil TWC is to their employees. They make Walmart look like a dream job. This person dedicated their life to a company that literally threw them away like old garbage. I have gotten 27 subscribers of TWC to cancel, we went downtown and cancelled all together! The looks on their faces was priceless. We have since found better more affordable services. This man is NOT exagerrating! You will hear more of the abuses TWC has done to their staff. I know jobs are hard to find and they are a job and we need to suck it up and work to get by. But, if you really had an inside look at the way they literally dump on their employees and CONTRACTORS.

Lazy Installers

Ive been contracting for TWC for 11 years and find this site very frustrating. You shouldnt complain that they give you to much work. If you cant do the work than find another job. Stop crying about the OTG, just make your damn jobs ontime and you wouldnt have to pay the $20. I like how you think that TW gives you all the work that their own techs didnt want to do or cant do... How stupid are you? do you think they have the time to go out to jobs and decide that they arent good enough to do the job so they should refer the job to a contractor.Everyone on here CRYING about time warner is the reason why contractors are treated like crap, because your all lazy and really suck at your jobs...I do the commercial installs that TW techs dont even do. I go to trouble calls to help TW techs with these jobs and most every guy i help out are really nice guys that are very good at there jobs. So just shut up and go do your work... anyone that works 7am-9pm should work faster or ask to be retrained because this work isnt that hard.

tw is the devil

Ive been an installer for over 10 years now and spent my first 6 installing for TWC as a sub. The way they allow subs to be treated is like modern day sweatshops governed by Saddam's regime. Customers that comment on here should know we used to be proud reps of the MSO. Professional installers should move on to companies that pay appropriately and eventually the quality of installer will reflect the pay. It already does in my city, "farm teams" for real companies. Charging for OTG's is ridiculous considering its been advertised on every van since I was able to read and in a recession, people are going to make any possible attempt at a discount. Especially, when as an installer, you have to be the bearer of bad news at each house of install charges not mentioned previously to the customer. In closing, installers & customers move on if you can

Your all full of poop We live in a latigeous world. Everybody thinks they are more important. The late time frame charge back is a scam. Time Warners Contractor agreement states....MAKE Customer Contact inside that time frame. Well then there is the mouthy lil nagging customers that want that twenty dollar credit. Not that any of us would do it. If you have a charge back for a missing time frame BY LAW they have to show where the customer recieved such a credit. If no credit issued no charge back will apply. Your contracting company is tracting time frames to charge you NOT TWC. OTG's failed QC's are a profit source to your contacting group. Its a paperwork NIGHTMARE to TWC one they would rather not live. If you are a crap installer and get lost alot then your getting what you deserve. Take 3 jobs aday, do it right the first time, be promt and professional. I bet you as a contractor you will find more time for product education

Time Warner akron ,ohio - 4/13/12 2:45 PM

Time Warner akron ,ohio

I'm the biggest fool in town. I've contracted for time warner in akron for 12 years. It's all the same here in akron they cut our pay then come up with 53 ways to back charge you but not one bonus incentive. I always gave my all and for what. Nothing. I say time warner does illegal things and gets away with them because no one can afford a good laywer. I took nearly 40% cut in pay last year but the owners of  the contracting company go on luxry holidays and buy investment properties and new fancy 50,000 vehicles. I'm going to have to pack up my house and possibly sell my car all becasue of this b.s. pay cuts backcharges and greedy contractors, we werealso charged for all our tools pda usage and meters paid no overtime no health benefits and we were w2 employees.hmmm what's the difference between 1099 and w2 at this point. I'd like some attorney to contact me about filing a class action law suit. A law firm succesfully won a lawsuit against multiband a direct t.v. contractor for not paying overtime to employees and independent contractors. I know because I was in on it. I'm not allowed to say any details but they had to pay out big time millions. I think time warner needs something like this to happen to them. get u verse or someone else stop giving it to time warner

DO NOT BLAME TW CABLE - 3/14/12 6:42 AM

DO NOT BLAME TW CABLE

Although TW Cable has dropped pay towards contracting companies, it is not enirely their fault. Its that contracting companies that decide to low ball the pay for a specific line items thinking that it will get them in the door. Basically if a contracting company refuses to work for the amount that is paid, there is another one right there behind them to pick up the load. The recent drop in prices in 2010-2011 was due to contracting companies across the country stabbing each other the back. Some were willing to provide techs for $12.00 and hour. How does the contracting company make money as well as the tech. Many hire people who barely speak english, but are only hired because he has a working truck and needs a job. The industry has gone down over the past 15 years. Quality technicians have left and most contracting companies are left with training individuals who only last 3 months tops. Now a days its about quantity rather than quality just to make a buck to pay for your gas to get around town. There are however those who are able to provide quality service to the customers, pass all their QCs, and make very good money. Many young people have no work ethics. They want a 9-5 job and not work weekends. unfortunately this job is a 7 day a week 24-7 business.  The amount of work you receive is due to the contracting companies failure to provide the number of techs it promised or was requested for the amount of quota that was booked. A lot of how a contractor (employee) is treated is all dependant on the contracting company you work for. Legally, they cannot charge you back for failed QCs or for high reworks if you are considered an employee. They cannot charge you for the meters that your are required to carry. You may want to talk to an attorney regarding your legal rights as an employee. It varies from state to state. I have seen many class action lawsuits against contracting companies that employees have been awarded sustantial amounts for overtime, chargebacks and equipment. If you are 1099, thats a different story, but I do not understand how you can be considered a 1099 contractor if they control where you go, how you do the job, and how late you stay out. You may want to review labor laws in your state. Time Warner is a great company to work for if you do your job right the first time. Its the contracting companies that are ruining the industry. The fly by night contracting companies destroyed the pay structure thinking they can do it for less.

To those who are blaming TW Cable, think again. Its either you or the company you work for.

Long time contractor - 2/20/12 1:51 PM
Anonymous
Long time contractor

I have been doing this six years and Im excellent at my job. Every year I make less money than I did the year prior. TWC keeps cutting pay. Last Feb or March they cut contract again by 40% pay.

And everyone on here is correct. We do the dirty work their people cant do. We do more installs per day. And we are back charged for missing a time frame.

If we only did the same amount of work that their "In House' techs do, we would never be late. Then we get back charged 45 dollars for every appointment that fails a quality check. This quality check changes in standards on almost monthly basis.  You may get back charged 45 dollars for something that only pays out 15 dollars.

Time warner wants quality work, yet they want their quality work performed in less than adequat time.

Contractors work every holiday except Thankgiving and Christmas. We usually work the day before and after our 2 whole holidays off per year. I dont remember getting home Christmas eve before 830 pm in my entire six year stinct as TWC contractor.

People used to stick around because of the money. But now everyone makes about 600 dollars for 60-65 hour work week. Every vetern technician has left and all that is left is a revolving door of rookie techs that leave within about 3 months of employment.

There is a major dichotomy between TWC and the contractors. Contractors are looked upon with a negative stigma by TWC and the customers both. Yet , if it werent for contractors, 60 % of daily installs wouldnt get done.

I am not speaking (typing) from a negative perspective. I am doing this from a numbers perspective. I see the reports weekly. I see the "failed quality checks". I see a lot.

Time Warner Cable needs to wake up.

If u dont like being a contractor then quit.  If you don't like getting installs while the in house techs trouble shoot ur mess from the day before - quit.  There are real good contractors and there were the few that I knew by their tech # and not for their quality of work.  I was one of those terrible in house techs for 6 years before changing jobs within the company.  If you think the in house staff have it perfect ur wrong.  Instead of proposing a boycott - which im sure both TW and ur boss wouldnt be happy about.  Why not go into a new profession like I did?  Stop comlaining.  Running around and being over booked comes with the job of Cable Installer.  Doesnt matter if ur a contractor or work directly as in-house.

Time Warner is reponsible

First off, I am a consumer and not an installer.  When I place an order with Time Warner, that is whom I am placing an order with.  Not with a sub contracting company.  Time Warner is sending installers to my house.  For those of you that keep saying TWC is not responsible, wake up.  The only reason they use sub contractors, is to by pass employer responsibilities.  Think back to Nike accused of using Child Labor to make their products.  In reality they had nothing to do with it, they sub contracted the work to factories in China.  But in the end, Nike took responsibility to fix it.

Having installer walk into customers homes based on an order between the customer and TWC, means TWC is responsbile.  They have a vested interest in making sure the sub contracting companies are treating their employees fairly.

My husband has been a contractor for 12 years. Time Warner sets the standards, but it's the contracting companies that disperse the jobs to the techs. The only thing I have found not right are the pay cuts. Seems like every year his pay rate goes down (Boss says because of Time Warner Contractors ALL getting rate cuts) 10% in 2010 and almost 33% in 2011. With the cost of living going up and pay going down, many guys are losing their houses, vehicles, etc... because they can't afford the payments.

I work for Baker a contractor for Time Warner. The other's who commented are correct. We contractor's are treated like crap. The MSO liasion for TW here in Columbus Ohio treats contractor's awful and we are blamed for everything. TW tech's are treated like gold. We can't even park on TW parking lot even though that is where our offices are. Only TW tech's are allowed. We are suppose to be partners. Yea right! TW tells us how we have to run our company but the pay is crap. Do not give TW your money. Go to Insight. From what I hear they treat and pay their contractor's better. But before you switch, make sure you tell TW why your leaving them.

I worked for ACI in Columbus, a contractor for Time Warner. ACI was a decent company to work for. But TW is another story. Contractor's are treated like red-headed step children by TW.   We were given all the installs, because TW tech's don't want to work. We are blamed for anything that goes wrong even if the last tech out was from TW. We are TW's scapegoats. I worked 12-14 hours a day and cleared $300-$400 a week. Not worth it. TW expects so much but gives too little. My manager left for another branch and that is when I left. He was the only reason I stayed. I now work for another contractor for Insight. The working conditions and pay is so much better! Please boycott Time Warner and go to Insight.

You can count on me!

My husband worked for a contractor in Columbus. They did work for Time Warner. He worked 80 hours a week. My children and I never saw him. The contractor could not keep people because of the hours they were expected to work. Time Warner demands more from the contractors than they do their own In house tech's. The in house tech's blame everything on us contractor's and talk crap about us to the customers. Yet we are suppose to be a team??? The only time Time Warner considers us a team is when they need us to do their s*** work that their tech's can't or don't want to do! I have joined your boycott. I will do one better. I will make up flyers that explain exactly what Time Warner is really like and pass them out all over Columbus.Time Warner values money not people or their families. Do not give them your money please. My husband works for a different contractor now who does not do work for Time Warner. He makes more money and doesn't work nearly as many hours. But I want Time Warner to change their ways for the men and women that can't get another job. I do not have Time Warner. I changed to WOW because of the way my husband was treated. Several of my family members changed as well.
