Boycott Title

No Sears for Christmas! The US worker/Bionic Wrench rip-off

Boycott Description

"Last Christmas, Sears had a brisk seller in the Bionic Wrench, an award-winning, patented tool with spiffy lime green accents. This holiday season, though, Sears has a special display for its own wrench, in the red and black colors of its house brand, Craftsman."

"One customer who recently spotted the new Craftsman tool, called the Max Axess wrench, thought it was an obvious knockoff, right down to the try-me packaging. 'I saw it and I said, This is a Bionic Wrench,' recalled Dana Craig, a retiree and tool enthusiast in MA who alerted the maker of the Bionic Wrench. 'It’s a very distinctive tool,' he added. The tools have one significant difference, Mr. Craig noted. The Bionic Wrench is made in the United States. The Max Axess wrench is made in China.

The shift at Sears from a tool invented and manufactured in the United States to a very similar one made offshore has already led to a loss of American jobs and a brewing patent battle. The story of the Bionic Wrench versus Craftsman, which bills itself as “America’s most trusted tool brand,” also raises questions about how much entrepreneurs and innovators, who rely on the country’s intellectual property laws, can protect themselves. For the little guy, court battles are inevitably time-consuming and costly, no matter the outcome."

Done with Sears

Sears has lost all my business forever! I feel bad for the 30 employees and their families whom have lost their jobs during the Holidays. Sears is so Anti-American. To steal an American Patented Bionic Wrench Tool Design and knock it off in China? Sears .....  You People are Freek'n Idiots! I promise to personally tell 1000 people what Sears did over the next 30 days! I hope this story puts Sears out of business where they belong! Sears get the "Scrooge Award" for 2012! Pack your bags Sears and move your so called company to China! The USA does need an Anti-American like Sears!

Thank you for attention, please forward!

Thanks for your comments, and please feel free to WIDELY forward this link to freinds and neighbors, encouraging them to do the same.  Impact will occur on behalf of the tool designer when there is enough registered attention to this, to bring in wider scrutiny (e.g., from other media).  Goal is for an upswell before next weak (Thanksgiving shopping rush).  Thanks.  [dismayedIllinoisan]

Disappointment

I am so disappointed with Sears over ripping off the Bionic Wrench from an American inventor.  They led Mr. Brown on so that he would not market his product to  their competion (Home Depot, etc.) and dropped him for a Chinese rip off.  No Sears gifts under my tree until this wrong has been corrected to Mr. Brown's satisfaction.

I actually like Sears and have tons of Craftsman products which I have had pretty good luck with, but outsourcing jobs to China to make a cheap knock-off of an American-Made wrench pisses me off. I pledge not to buy any more Craftsman products until Sears corrects this bad decision.
