me too

I had pretty much the same experience this last Saturday and it was my freaking 41st birthday!! I had the same jeans on as my 3 friends that were with me. The door man looked at my pants and said he was sorry but I can't come in. We pointed out that my jeans were no more baggy than my friends or several more guys that walked in. Now I was wearing a Korn concert shirt and I have a shaved head. I'm assuming he thought I some skin head gangsta or something stupid like that. Oh, and I'm a dorky white dude for what it matters. After 30 mins and having the 20 odd people that were part of my bday celebration who were already inside threatened to take our $ someplace else he finally let me in. Like the previous poster I was very conflicted. I however chose to go in and enjoy the rest of the night though I was still fuming. I decided to be bigger than him so I shook his hand and said thank you for letting me in. I don't think he was expecting it. Anyway, it was an unfortunate experience and I will never go there again.

DJ Gansta Jeans (my new name my friends have given me, haha!)

One of many discrimination practices at Sawyer Park

On April 16, 2010, I, along with several colleagues from work decided to visit Sawyer Park on Washington Avenue. We decided on this place because of the posh environment and adult atmosphere that a lot of places, unfortunately, don't have. One of our co-workers was already inside wating on us, so as we walked towards the entrance, I noticed the bouncer, door man, whatever you want to call him look directly at our pants and shoes. He proceeded to ask for our ID's and then the next statement just BLEW me away. He said, "well with this being an after work happy hour, Sawyer Park has a STRICT dress-code and baggy pants is not allowed." Mind you, I had just gotten off work and had my work clothes attire, so I know my jeans was not baggy and was appropriate for any climate. I WAS FLOORED! I raised my shirt up to show the guy that my jeans was up to the max and he continued to say there is a strict dress-code. I know that I've matured because if this would've been in my 20's, I would've caused a scene and clowned, but I simply said, "bro, you know you're wrong for this" and walked away. As I was walking towards my truck, I noticed another patron, "young caucasion" male walking towards the entrance. I PURPOSELY walked back towards the entrance to see if this "guy" was going to be allowed in and I'll be; not only was he NOT carded, but he walked in unabated. I told that guy, man you know you're wrong for this blatant autrocity. He stood there with a blank, dumb look on his face. But this is how I know GOD works in mysterious ways. When we were waiting for my co-worker to come outside to leave, the bouncer, door guy walked over to us and said, " say guys, y'all can come in; c'mon inside." I had to compose myself because my mind was telling me one thing and my heart was saying something different. I simply replied, " that's OK bro, but thank you anyway." He stood there looking lost; dismayed. I felt a sense of relief because I know I did the right thing by not entering a place where my presence is not wanted.

I am creating this complaint to let Sawyer Park know we will not put up with this blatant discrimination and we will take action. Go to Sawyer Park's facebook, call them and tell them how we will not allow this type of action to take place in our city. Let's stand up and make a  stand against Sawyer Park.
