Boycott Title

PETCO- STEPPING ON THE LITTLE GUYS!

Boycott Description

A family and small business owners Bernadette and Joe Pflug started a company called UNLEASED in Louisville, CO. This great shop is a pet shop boutique catering to a select pet supply market.

PETCO has come in and stolen their name, designs and right down to their color scheme of the original UNLEASHED store.

PETCO is a multibillion dollar company who feels the need to steal a hard working family's ideas and not pay them for it, and open up their own Unleashed stores throughout the country.

How is America supposed to rebuild if the world is monopolized by big corporations and the founders that supports and make our communities succeed are stepped on?

Boycott Demands

Please help us in Boycotting PETCO by telling them straight out we will not accept them stepping on our communities and being unappreciative of family owned business that come up with their own ideas. PETCO, an already established company, feels they need to steal from the little people to boost their already growing bottom line.

Bird neglect Alert!

It breaks my hear to see that the PetCo in jackson, tn doesn't take take as much care as they should of the birds they sell. I am now boycotting petco. I never thought much of this store anyway. Their products suck. There attitudes and laziness towards the birds also suck. Its really lazy, pathetic, and not necessary to be this way.  Im looking more in to it.

PETCO DOESNT CARE

PETCO LIKE MOST...WHO AM I KIDDING ANY OF THE OTHER CORPORATE MONSTER STORES IS FOCUSED ON ONE THING MAKING MONEY...THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT PETS OR PEOPLE ONLY MONEY... MOM AND POPS STORES OPERATE WITH INTEGRITY AND HAVE COMPASION FOR THE ANIMALS AND THIER LOYAL CUSTOMERS...THEY WILL FOLLOW UP WITH GOOD OLD FASHION CUSTOMER SERVICE... AFTER ALL IT IS THIER LOVE OF ANIMALS THAT COMPLELLED THEM TO OPEN THEIR BUSSINESS TO BEGIN WITH... PETCO HAS NO SUCH REGARD FOR ANIMALS OR PEOPLE THEY HAVE NO COMPASION OR LOVE OF OUR FURRY LITTLE FRIENDS ONLY AS FAR AS HOW MUCH PROFIT THERE IS TO BE GAINED... TO THEM ITS ALL ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE...AND THEY DON'T CARE.... AS MUCH AS IS PAINS ME TO ADMITT MY WIFE WORKED NOTICE I SAID WORKED PAST TENSE FOR A PETCO GROOMIONG SALON... SHE COMPLAINED OF POOR TREATMENT, ANIMAL SAFETY VIOLATIONS AND IN A FEW CASES OUTRIGHT ANIMAL ABUSE IN THE SALON...LONG STORY SHORT NOTHING WAS DONE...WHILE THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS LODGED BY CUSTOMERS IN ADDITION TO HER STATEMENT TO HER DISTRICT MANAGEMENT WAS COMPLETELY IGNORED AND NO ACTIONS WERE TAKEN AGAINST ANY OFF THE EMPLOYEES GUILTY OF THE POOR TREATMENT... ONE OF THESE EMPLOYEES HAD OVER 25 CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS IN LESS THAN A MONTH...THE COMPANY LET MY WIFE GO AFTER 1 (THATS O..N..E, ONE) POLICY AND PROCEEDURE VIOLATION VERY SHORTLY AFTER THESE COMPLAINTS WERE LODGED... SHE CARED ENOUGH TO STAND UP FOR THE ANIMALS AND WAS CONCERNED ABOUT CUSTOMERS COMPLAINTS?????? GUESS THAT IS NOT THE PETCO WAY... IGNORE THE CUSTOMERS MAN HANDLE THE ANIMALS... AND YOUR A MODEL EMPLOYEE.....HERE IS MY BOTTOM LINE SMALL BUSSINESSES CARE AND HAVE PASSION FOR THEIR WORK... WANT TO TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT AND BELIEVE IN OLD FASHION CUSTOMER SERVICE VALUES... LARGE COMPANIES LIKE PETCO TO QUITE FRANKLY DON'T GIVE A DAMM....UNLESS IT HAS TO DO WITH MONEY...LIKE SHE WAS TOLD WHEN ESCORTED OFF THE PROPERTY ( THE CORPRATE WAY ) ITS NOTHING PERSONAL ITS JUST BUSSINESS.... WELL I AM A MOM AND POP GRANTED AUTOMOTIVE NOT PETS BUT IT IS PERSONAL ITS MY NAME MY REPUTATION AND MY CUSTOMERS WHICH I VALUE AND CARE ENOUGH TO LISTEN TOO AND TAKE PRIDE IN THE QUALITY OF MY WORK AND ION THE SATISFACTION OF MY CUSTOMNERS... TOO COMPANIES LIKE PETCO .... IT ISN'T PERSONAL JUST BUSSINESS ...THEY ARE TO BIG TO CARE...

All ideas have been stolen

Most successful business are built on stolen ideas, the ones who are smart will survive. This practice has been going on for years, take a look at Wal-mart they treat their employees like crap but are still expanding and making millions. How many businesses have they ruined? How many of you shop at Wal-mart? I personally do it a last resort. So if you boycott pPetco you need to do it for all retail chains, they all put mom and pop out of business.

Who copied who is not relavant, unleashed is a word just like any other so how can Petco steal it? I have been in many dog and cat botiques, if they are successful why wouldn't Petco do the same. Are you going to boycott microsoft for strealing apple's ideas? Just don't shop at Unleashed go pay higher prices at the mom and pop shop. That is your right.

Im backing you!

I hate big corporations that forget where they came from, it was loyal customers JUST LIKE YOU FOLKS that support the original unleashed store that made them SO big and now they try to crush out the little guy.  I am SO against that.  EBAY did got that way.  Ebay used to be all about the consumer and helping them and now they are all about themselves.  I hate big corporations.  Ill gladly join your cause.  There is a little pet store in my area that I used to work at and I will only buy pet supplies from them!

Greed goes both ways

Before boycotting a business, make sure you boycott the right one.  Just because a business is small doesn't mean it is more ethical.  Frankly my experience with UNLEASHED leads me to believe their interests are as much if not more focused on greed than PETCO.

Locally owned Small buisness up against Unleashed

Small locally owned family Pet Buisness here. We learned Unleashed by PETCO was in negotiations with our landlord when we caught two men in our store. They took pictures of our store displays and drilled employees about the lines we carry, an especially about Natures variety, how  was it doing for us etc. One man claimed his dog was just a pound mutt and it chews it's paws. What advice did we have for him? He was rudly assertive. Our Landlord confirmed Unleashed is almost in! She said we need to find some synergy with our compition and how she thinks it will be good for us!

You must work for Petco! To deflect such a statement to this hardworking family, it is only obvious you work for the box chain monopoly company and have not one original thought in that tiny pea brain of yours. How you can wake up and look at yourself in the mirror daily is only a true wonder. Be afraid, be very afraid, because Coloradoan’s look after their own, and I guarantee you, you will loose when it comes down to the bottom line. They were here first and will be the last one standing.

The Halleys behind Unleashed all the way!

Never been a big fan of big companies and don't plan on being one any time soon.  You've got our support all the way Bernadette & Joe.  It's just shameful what Petco is doing.  Even more reason to support LOCAL businesses!

For Petco supporters - Just turn the tables and think if this was your family's business that was getting attacked by some cookie cutter warehouse company?

The Halleys stand on the Unleashed side of the fence!

There is a place called Unleashed Dog Park here in Dallas. It will be interesting to see how they feel about Petco's Unleashed.

Seriously, they have a whole department for marketing, they can pick another name and logo.

Unleashed in Louisville is the Best

To the 2 anonymous posters here below.  Boy are you guys wrong!

Are you sore because of any connection to a store that went out of business on McCaslin 3 years ago?  I used to shop there.  The owners were unfriendly and the store had no character.  It's no wonder it failed.

Joe and Bernadette are fabulous people, terrific business owners, and genuinely care about other people and the welfare of their pets.

Their store location in Superior has all the same colors and textures as the one now in Louisville.  It's a bright happy wonderful store and I recommend them to everyone I know.

Good luck with your fight against Petco!

Color Scheme

I remember their old store at Rock Creek Plaza in Superior. It had tan floors and white walls. Their new store looks completely different with all new colors. Wonder who copied who?

Greed or Paranoid? - 3/4/10 6:25 AM

Greed or Paranoid?

You started your business in Superior, 4 miles from your current location on McCaslin Blvd in Louisville. The reason you moved to Louisville was to attract a better demographic & population of road traffic to grow your business. It did not bother you when you selected your new location in Louisville that you would infringe on the business of other pet stores in Boulder, Lafayette, or Broomfield that have been there for many years and have worked hard to build their businesses and clientel. No, you did it because you saw an opportunity to steal customers and grow your business. You did not care about your fellow small local pet shop owners. You did it for money.

As a business person I will tell you, that you do not loose business to the Petco's or PetsMart's of the world because of price or because they move near you. You loose business because you no longer provide a value to your customer, ie service, knowledge, experience, & being competitive that does not mean you have to be lower in price just competitive."You loose business because the customer no longer feels you have met their expectations."

Oh! buy the way when you were located in Superior next to the Safeway 4 months ago before your move to Louisville your sign "unleashed" was in Black & White only, and the print was in cursive not block print? You say that PETCO copied your idea huh!!

*** SHAME ***

All small business owners should be outraged that Petco is allowed to steal this wonderful idea. I have supported Bernadette from the inception of the original store and was delighted that she could expand recently to her new location. She trained both of my dogs using her special "Unleashed" principles and helped them obtain their AKC "Good Canine Citizen" awards. PLEASE SUPPORT BERNADETTE!

PETCO is NOT community oriented

I will gladly join the Boycott Petco bandwagon, and send it along to everyone I know.  Not only is PETCO being unethical with Unleashed, they are also entered into a partnership with Fetch! Pet Care, and will refer to ANY independent pet sitters--even locations where there is no Fetch. PETCO is only interested in the "company" part of their name--not the pets or their best interests.  Not a dime of my money (or my client's money, I'm quite sure) will end up in PETCO's pockets.

Another boycott on Petco

Boycott Petco-you bet! Unleased has served us so well in the short while we have had our dog. They have a solution for all the questions we ask. They are honest, intelligent and a friendly independent family-owned store.  Bernadette is a superb trainer and between her and Joe's knowledge of their products, it's the best combination a pet owner could want.  Long Live Unleashed!!!

Kudos to the real Unleashed

Unleashed (the authentic one in Colorado - not the imitation fake ones) has been successful through nothing but lots of hard work and exceptional business ethics. They provide only excellent services and products with a sincere and personal touch.  They care about their customers - furry ones and less furry ones alike.  This is what builds a great business with a loyal customer base.  I hope Petco will show good conscience and rise to the occassion and do the right thing here.  May the true Unleashed prevail!!!!!!!

Petco, how lame.

Shame on you for unethical marketing 'stealing'! You must have some pretty stupid marketing people working for you that they can't come up with their own ideas including color scheme, they need to steal from a fabulous family owned business in a small Colorado town. Boo Petco!

down with Petco!

I have been a long time customer of the wonderful and ORIGINAL Unleashed store.  Everyone there is super friendly and helpful... I cannot say that at all about Petco.  It is very disheartening when these "bigbox" stores think they can walk all over the smaller family owned businesses.  I will not be shopping at any more Petcos and will encourage all my friends to boycott them as well.  Good Luck to you guys at Unleashed and I really hope you win this fight!  :)

Typical Big Business stepping on the little guy.

Though the law is right about the type of trademark, it still doesn't give PetCo the right.  They should meet with the Pflugs & talk it over.  I'm sure they could comprimise.  Another way Big Business rules the land over Mom-&-Pop business.

Greedy corporate mentality...

This was poor judgment on Petco's part--what do they possibly hope to accomplish besides bad publicity.  I do wonder if it would be financially prudent for the Pflugs to re-register their business under another name.  I would hate to see them get wiped out with expensive litigation.  I know that's like "giving in," but I would rather see them survive another way than be gobbled up by corporate mentality.  I hope they let their Congressman know what has happened.  I have been a loyal customer of Petco and I am glad they provide employment opportunities, but this is a travesty and I will think twice before I shop there again.

Unethical and little customer service

I tried calling Petco to complain about what they are doing.  They claim to still be a U.S. company, but you cannot talk to anyone in the U.S., only in the Phillipines, where they cannot understand what you are saying.  So the company is trying to not hire U.S. citizens, either, as well as running smaller businesses out of business.

DOWN WITH PETCO

What Petco is doing is not only morally wrong, but it is unethically wrong as well! I do not want my children growing up in a society where we are saying it is ok to stomp out the little guy! We work just as hard if not harder! We all want to make our mark in this world and there is plenty of room! Why does Petco have to go and STEAL another persons ideas and dreams? Don't they have their own? I was a frequent flyer with Petco for convenience, however I will not sacrifice by belief in morally and ethically incorrect practices for the sake of 5 min drive time. I will now be switching all my shopping to a locally family owned store. Only actions will bring these corrupt corporations down!
