John Deere mower outrage

Boycott Description

I purchased a John Deere walk behind self-propelled mower from Lowes for $350, to include a comprehensive repair/replacement plan from Lowes. I accidentally hit an old stump in my yard with the blade and it bent the shaft. No problem, I have the repair plan. WRONG! the plan does not cover bent shafts, got nowhere with Lowes, it clearly states in the fine print that bent shafts are not covered. OK, I'm biting the bullet on this one so I call the local John Deere place to see how much it will cost to fix the mower. Are you ready? $300, almost as much as the mower costs new!!!!! Called other JD repair places- same thing. So I call JD and get a nice lady who handles such calls. I tell her my story and she expresses disbelief that it will cost that much to repair the mower. Says she will get back to me, calls me later and says she is sorry, but that is how much it costs to do the repair. OUTRAGEOUS. Friends of mine with other brands who have had this same problem have had repairs around $100 to $150. And consider this - years ago if you hit something with your mower it broke a small 25 cent piece of metal that was easily replaced with a screwdriver.
