Not only that, but now they corrupt the usb controller files for any computer over a year old. That way you either have to pay a 3rd party technician $100 to repair remotely, or they say you have to buy a new computer. No usb file I find online will work. (so far)

Can't get help by a person for Gateway ProductsBoycott Description
My husband and I purchased a Gateway computer a little over a year ago. I had not created re-store disks off the partition- which was my own fault. When the computer went haywire (it had kinks ever since we bought it such as shutting down for no reason, hibernating in the middle of things and for lack of better terms, going crazy to the point of not allowing me to move my mouse without it shutting down) we tried to contact Gateway to order restore disks. I couldn't actually call I found out- I had to email them. I was then informed that my computer was out of warranty- which didn't matter since I only wanted to puchase restore disks. I was finally able to google phone numbers for Gateway and was able to order disks for appx $20-25.The disks I was sent were bad and I had this verified by a Geek Squad agent.
When I tried to get through to Gateway I had to push all kinds of buttons to try to get to a person. Each time I've called they seem to not have my information- which is very aggravating since they then seem to miraculously find it a few questions later even though I provide the SNID number off my computer.
The last time I called it was over an hour and twenty minutes before they finally connected me to someone in a elevated technical level and then after about 10 minutes of holding and transferring I got the the correct person who agreed that my problem was faulty restore disks and agreed to send me new ones.
I am yet to receive these disks and it's been about a month.
I have my case number and yet I STILL can't get through to someone. I made the mistake of giving them an accurate home number- so now when I call it immediately asks if I'm calling about my previous problem!
I even called their paid support line to find out who to call about the disks I PAID FOR... and was told that Gateway will only respond if I email them.
The problem with this is that each time I email them I get a generic response- that I'm out of warranty.
At this point I'm aggravated and at my wits end! I have called over and over and get hung up on every time... only after they recommed that I try their website to check out all of their fabulous products.
I will never, EVER buy another Gateway product again, because once you are outside of your one-year warranty they could care less about you.
All I want is what I paid for- and I can't even get through to a person... thanks for nothing Gateway!

I would like Gateway to get a customer service line that ACTUALLY ANSWERS THE PHONE!I hope others will join me in this boycott- to put their foot down to companies that could care less about a consumer once they get your money!

I agree with all posts. I did not get software with laptop, cannot call customer service without a fee and have to pay for a disc I never received. Gateway says "Please bend over and smile while I transfer your complate to India!"
I agree wholeheartedly. Gateway has the worst customer service. I will never buy from them again. I recently installed windows 7 on my laptop, which previously ran on windows vista. The fresh install removed pretty much every driver on my computer. I couldn't use the touch volume control anymore but I found a solution to that problem via an internet search engine. Today, I realized my built webcam doesn't work and I tried to search for a solution online but to no avail. I figured I'd give gateway a call for some quick help but no! There's no way for me to reach them because I bought my latop in August 2009 for college. According to their website, I'm "ineligible" to make a free phone call to them for help so they suggested that I chat with an agent online. I did and he was no help. 1. I explained my problem in detail and he still kept asking me what I needed. 2. I told him I can no longer access my recovery management software and he said he could only help me with one problem because I'm out of warranty. Then he sent me a link for my webcam driver, assured me it would work, and closed the chat. I clicked the link, unzipped the file, and ran the setup, but alas, "webcam not recognized." I had to go through rigamarole for a new battery when I was within warranty. I spoke to someone from possibly India, he had a thick accent and couldn't understand my problem. They outsource jobs to other countries and we can't even get decent support!? After buying their product?! Fvck that. P.s no, I still haven't solved my problem.
I just had exactly the same problem, I just got transferred to a person in India by name Hare Krishna who kept repeating that the serial or SNID # I provided was incorrect,yes Gateway deserves to be boycotted.

I hate my computer!!! I should have stayed with Dell which I had beore. It was user friendly which this one is not. It's giving me ulcers. I cannot find anyone to offer help unliss I am willing to pay for it. I will NEVER buy another Gateway. I just saw a question that said What do you do if your computer is stolen? I didn't read the answer, but here is mine. I would write the thief a thank you note, file an insurance clain and go buy a Dell!!!!!
THEY ARE THE PARENT COMPANY OF EMACHINES AND ACER IS IN THERE ALSO. THE COMPANY SENDS US TO INDIA BUT FIRST WE MUST PASS THE PHONE ROBOT TEST BY SPEAKING TO THE MACHINE THAT DOES NOT WORK OR RARELY WORKS, NEVER WORKED FOR ME. I GOT LUCKY AT 3:00 AM ONE MORNING AND A REAL PERSON ANSWERED BUT TRYING TO TALK TO THESE PEOPLE IS QUITE A CHALLENGE! THEY ARE NOT THAT SMART AS THEY PRETEND TO BE AND SENT ME THE WORG DISKS AFTER A HALF HOUR OF TRYING TO GET THEM TO UNDERSTAND MY PROBLEM. THEY SENT ME THE WRONG DISKS AND SEEM TO NOT LIKE AMERICANS! SUPPORT THAT WILL NOT SUPPORT IS NO SUPPORT WITH A SMALL KERNEL OF TALKING TO A CUSTOMER ON OCCASION.. EXCUSE MY MISTAKES IN THIS MESSAGE BUT BEEN UP ALL NITE TRYING TO RESOLVE MY EMACHINES PROBLEM.
