Lies, Deception and No Ethic

My Husband and I were both hospitalized in July of this year, prior to this we were barely making ends met. GE had set up a payoff account with me earlier in the year, and my last payment was to be in July for 1000.00 Between the hospital bills, being out of work, mediations, especially the out patient IV’s we were unable to make the last payment of 1000.00 in July. I called GE explained the situation., asked for an extension., I offered to send him copies of the hospital bills and admissions as I know they hear this all the time., They denied my request and the amount went back up to the original amount, plus all the back fee’s and interest. I had already paid 1000.00 and my bill was barely 500.00 dollars less by the time they were done. Unfortunately, we found out how little our medical insurance really covered, and the bills continued to mount up. My Mom got me Dave Ramsey’s books and tapes, and slowly we began to dig out of our hole. Everything we have that is not nailed down, (run kids) is up for sale on eBay, I have spent weeks typing out budgets and letters. I sent letters to all our creditors with explanation of what was going on, how I was going to pay them. I received a letter from GE asking me to call them, I did and they offered me a pay off, right at the amount I had left in July. They wanted 317.00 now, and a auto draft of 31.600 on 12/10 and 1/10. Now I really don’t have this money, that is my grocery money and all my other creditors divided up money, But I did take the offer. I was given a confirmation number, and taped with my agreement. I got home from work the other night and my son called me saying an attorney had called. I called them first thing in the morning and when they stated GE had hired them, I informed her she must be mistaken or the letter crossed in the mail as I had set up an agreement two days prior and the funds drafted. She informed me that she saw the funds had drafted, but no agreement had be set up and to call GE to double check. I called GE, not only did they not have my account number, they were unable to give me any information because it has all been transferred to the attorney. Now, the attorney was nice, he said he has heard this before and stated if I had a letter, he could call them, they would have to honor it. It had only been two days, so I didn’t expect a letter yet, but I did expect a letter at some point. I gave him my confirmation number (which he informed me was worthless as was my recorded tape GE took) He asked me to call him tomorrow, as he will call GE to see if he can help at all. He was unable to tell me if GE would still draft from my account on those days and he was unable to make the deal that GE made, not even close. They also needed 400 dollars….but, he will call GE to check on the auto draft since they wont talk with me. I will call the attorney tomorrow as promised, but I will also be calling the better business bureau , the attorney general, Dave Ramsey, and a few other medias (local newspaper, possible news stations, and web pages, bloggs) I will not pay anything to this attorney until I have a letter in hand stating from GE they will not auto draft from my account, and then only then will I pay the amount originally stated in the letter. Any funds I receive from our sales will not go to this company first but to others that have worked with me. I will also make a list of GE products, post it and boycott. As for me GE is synonyms with deception and lies. I will encourage my friends, colleges and anyone who will listen to beware also. Christine Blanksvard
