There is a cure for Facebook. Abandon it. - 11/12/12 9:19 AM

There is a cure for Facebook. Abandon it.

Forget trying to contact Facebook or putting your side of a grievance to them. Forget their HELP page, which is wasted wear-and-tear on your keyboard and itself a waste of space. For here is an arrogant monster which is taking over the internet communications world: it doesn't need you, it couldn't give a damn about you and it is one of the least accountable multinationals in the world. What's that? You're looking for a phone number so that you can contact their Customer Service? How many minutes has it been since you said "Bye" to Dorothy on the Yellow Brick Road?

I wrote to complain to Facebook because it invited me to spread the word about a book I'd written through my Hotmail friends and contacts. Next thing I knew Facebook had drained my MSN address book and fired off invites without any chance for me to edit them or add a covering note...next thing I was told that I had been barred for "Sending spam". The icing on the cake was when I found that a Facebook app had been making up imaginary messages from friends who had never sent them, as well as lifting private information unauthorized. Then I found it had bullied or chastised many of my friends for things that they too had never done or done wrong. Shall I continue?

No, I think not. It's not the point. If Facebook has been ignoring the entreaties for over a year of those who represent a million users concerned about Facebook's indifference to paedophile activity carried out on its pages, what chance does an Ordinary Joe have of satisfaction?

There's one thing to do: NEVER sign up for a Facebook app, use AVG software to disable Facebook's tracking functions and finally, if you have the courage of your convictions, resolve not to use Facebook ever again. I'm leaving the Zuckerberg Fiefdom and I'm inviting my near-two thousand friends on there, on Facebook, to abandon it with me.

Facebook Needs Customer Service/Help Desk

I have not been able to get on Facebook anymore because it says it needs to verify my account with a mobile text message.  As my phone doesn't get text messages, it won't let me go further.  They already have my contact information - that should be good enough and there is no one to at Facebook to help me.

GARBAGE

tell me why I have been hacked twice and not one of my emails have been returned, as well as being told now that I am going to be stopped from sending friend request because they say I am sending them to people that I hardly know, well those people are long time school friends that I have lost touch with or family long lost. So I guess a little bit more negative publicity, won't hurt Mark at all will it.

Facebook takes you in sircles

Facebook also told me, Sorry, can not log in, temporarily out of order, we're working on it, but nothing gets done. This has been going on for three days now. Every time the message given in the help centre tells to log onto facebook from my computer. Somebody is so stupid because thats what i've been doing the whole time. "Follow the instructions" means nothing because there are no instructions to follow, except logging in and thats what I can not do. Can anybody be so ....

Automation FTW

Facebook is so lame they claim to be one of the biggest social networks on the internet however they can't even offer any user support, other than a help page full of generic answers that lead you in circles. I have been locked out of my account for hours now even though it said I reached an hourly limit on trying to reset my password.

The sadest thing is since they don't allow for the changing of an accounts security question once it is found out by a hacker it seems you can kiss your account goodbye. Furthermore, my girl friend and I from her account finally found how to "have a friend help in reclaiming the account" and after writing them a detailed letter of the events that lead up to my account being compromised all we received back was a generic pre-written e-mail that makes me think that no one even read the message my girl friend sent them from her account. It’s time for Facebook to get real you can't run the world’s biggest social network / gaming site on automation alone. Which leads me to wonder what the hell do they do with all that ad money anyways?

My account has been deactivated and deleted for over a year at this point.  I recieved an e-mail stating that "my account" has been sending spam and information with a "new password" was enclosed in the letter that was attached to the e-mail.  Knew there is/was a reason why I got rid of all ties with this site.

Facebook needs accountability - 3/11/11 4:42 PM

Facebook needs accountability

I decided to upgrade the security on my Facebook account by setting my account to login through a secure connection whenever possible. Then later, when I tried to access my Graffiti app, I got a message saying I needed to disable the https secure connection in order to access the app. I clicked OK, and suddenly Facebook logged me out and displayed a message saying the security of my account was compromised because it did not recognize the computer I was using.

I tried to log back in and it said I had to complete a series of security verifications first. One of which was to answer the security question on my account. It asked me who my third grade teacher was. Well, I couldn't remember her name, and I didn't even recall setting this as my security question when I first set up my Facebook account years ago. After thinking for a while, I think I remembered my third grade teacher's name but couldn't recall the correct spelling, or what punctuation/capitalization/abbreviations I had used when setting the question up (mrs. mrs ms. ms miss Mrs. Mrs Ms Ms. Miss -- which one had I used?) Anyway, I wasn't able to enter the security question properly, and I can't keep trying because the system locks me out for 24 hrs. after only a few tries. The automated account recovery system only provides me the option to reset my password, which I did, but then the system still requires me to answer the same security question, so resetting the password is not helpful. I am not given the option that supposedly exists to "use a friend to recover your account", so that is not helpful either. Furthermore, Facebook offers ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT. Their "Help System" consists of a bunch of pre-scripted answers to generic questions that do not offer actual solutions, but instead refer through a loop of related questions without actually addressing your problem. There is no actual help provided by a live person when you have a legitimate problem like mine. Indeed, there is no way whatsoever to contact an actual Facebook staff member to provide support with using their service. So basically, I am screwed in ever regaining access to my account. My account was declared as "compromised" through no fault of my own by a bug in the Facebook system. And because I can't remember exactly how I punctuated the answer to some obscure security question that I entered years ago, I can't recover my account through the automated system. And there is no customers support whatsoever to help me with this problem. Facebook really has a terrible security system in place. Aside from the obvious bug I discovered, the system is further flawed because I am only given a single security question to answer. Any legitimate websites that I have used before (secure government sites, etc.) provide the user with a number of different security questions; in case the user forgets the answer to a couple of them, at least if they get one right, they can still access their information.  Furthermore, Facebook needs to offer some kind of customer support. It is ridiculous that a company as large as Facebook thinks they can get away with offering absolutely no real customer support. They have millions of people using their heavily flawed software (not to mention a hoard of untested third-party apps), and they are dodging the responsibility that comes with supporting such a large customer base. They are happy to leech dollars off a naive and unsuspecting populace while not wanting to pony up the dough needed to run a customer support center. Such irresponsible practices only show how little Facebook values their customers. If they don't clean up their business practices, once the wave they are riding of people trying out the latest fad dries up, they will quickly find themselves in a downsizing situation.
